The community of Kitsilano, also fondly known as Kits, is located directly east of Point Grey. It is bordered by English bay to the north, 16th Avenue to the south, Alma Road to the west, and Burrard Street to the east. Downtown and the West End are connected to Kits mainly via the Burrard Street Bridge.
The main attraction of this community is the lifestyle it has to offer its active population. Joggers, bikers, rollerbladers, and windsurfers alike enjoy Kitsilano Beach Park. Between Kitsilano and UBC, in the West Side, you'll also find beautiful, secluded beaches like the Spanish Banks, Jericho, and Locarno. This locally famous seaside is also home to Wreck Beach, our very own nude beach. Excellent shopping is also abundant on West Fourth Avenue from Burrard Street all the way west to the University of British Columbia, as well as a great choice of trendy cafes and international restaurants.
In the spring and summer, Kitsilano is home to many wonderful events, most of which you'll find in beautiful Vanier Park. Some of our favourites include the Children's Festival, the Folk Festival, and the annual classic Shakespearean theatre festival of Bard on the Beach. In Vanier Park, you'll also find the Vancouver Museum, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, and the Gordon Southam Observatory.
Driving time by automobile from Kitsilano to Downtown is about ten minutes. Public transit from Kits to Downtown is approximately twenty minutes, while traveling via bicycle will take about twenty-five minutes. Traveling time to outlying communities such as Burnaby is about a half hour during peak hours.
