Area Description - Downtown Vancouver:

Downtown Vancouver is located on a peninsula bordering spectacular Stanley Park to the Northwest and Vancouver's Westside to the South.
The downtown core features four districts, each with its own distinct style and flare.

Yaletown is a trendy neighbourhood to the southwest featuring great restaurants, cafes, and shopping along Mainland and Homer Streets. Yaletown is one of the most popular destinations downtown. Yaletown borders the False Creek waterway and the popular Seawall, which highlights the wonderful views of English Bay and Burrard Inlet.

Gastown is located in the northeastern part of the downtown core and is known as the historic district, with cobblestone roads and brick buildings. West Cordova Street and Water Street are packed with fabulous restaurants, gift shops and other tourist attractions.

Coal Harbour is the downtown waterfront. This upscale residential neighbourhood borders Stanley Park, a must-see for every visitor to Vancouver. At over 400 hectares (1000 acres), the Park has everything: walking and biking trails, beaches, tennis courts, a tea house, public pool, and the Vancouver Aquarium. Running through the heart of downtown is Robson Street, a shopper's delight with loads of restaurants and fashionable stores.

The West End is located along the Seawall bordering Stanley Park to the southwest. This colorful neighbourhood is one of Vancouver's most popular districts running along English Bay with loads of beach access, stunning views and great dining along trendy Davie and Denman Streets. There is always something happening in the West End, so if you're looking for a lively neighbourhood this is the place to be!

Area Description - North Vancouver:

This beautiful city and municipality is nestled in the North Shore Mountains (Grouse Mountain, Mount Seymour, and Cypress Mountain) and is a major attraction for the outdoor adventurer/tourist with hiking, mountain biking, skiing and other activities just minutes away. Enjoy spectacular views from residential communities such as Edgemont Village and Lynn Valley, or enjoy the waterfront neighbourhood of Lower Lonsdale.
If you're looking to relocate to a family-oriented outdoor wonderland but stay within a short distance to the downtown core, North Vancouver is the place for you.
North Vancouver is accessed from the downtown core via the Lions Gate Bridge or the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge (10-15 minute drive, or approx. 30 minutes during peak travel times). If you are traveling via public transit, the Seabus is just a 15-minute ride from Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver to Waterfront Station, which is located on the downtown waterfront in Vancouver and connects to the Skytrain.

Area Description - Coquitlam:

Coquitlam is located 30-45 minutes east of Vancouver (by car). A bustling community, Coquitlam has two excellent shopping centers. The Lougheed Mall is situated on the Coquitlam/Burnaby border at the corner of North Road and Lougheed Highway. Enjoy great shopping, eateries and access to the Vancouver Skytrain (light rapid transit) all in this convenient location. HighStreet offers beautiful accommodations just across the street! Northeast of Lougheed Mall, you'll find Coquitlam Center, located along the Barnet Highway. Larger than Lougheed Mall, this shopping center features a combination of department stores and boutique shops. The Barnet Highway provides access to Vancouver. Alternatively, the West Coast Express runs in the morning and early evening. There are also buses that run throughout the day. Allow at least 1.5 hours travel time if using public transit into downtown Vancouver.

Area Description - Port Coquitlam:

Port Coquitlam is located east of Coquitlam, about 30-45 minutes outside of Vancouver (by car). This community borders the picturesque Fraser River to the south. There are numerous parks and trails in the area, as well as two golf courses. Public transit systems provide access to Vancouver via the West Coast Express in the morning and early evening or by bus throughout the day (45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes).

Area Description - Port Moody:

Rounding out the Tri-Cities (along with Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam), Port Moody is located on the water just north of the Coquitlam/Burnaby border.
Port Moody features the up-and-coming Newport Village, a popular area loaded with boutique shops and restaurants. The city is flanked by modern high-rises, but Port Moody also offers outdoor enthusiasts a variety of activities, such as boating and other water sports in the crescent-shaped harbour, swimming at Buntzen Lake, and hiking in Belcarra Regional Park. There are even scuba diving opportunities in the Indian Arm glacial fjord. Port Moody also hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year, including a film festival in March, Golden Spike Days Festival in July (which celebrates the city's early ties to the railway) and May's Fingerling Festival (when thousands of young chum salmon, also known as fingerlings, are released into the river system).
In the morning and evening, reach Vancouver via the West Coast Express in just 25 minutes. During the day, commute times to Vancouver are approximately 1 hour by bus or 30-40 minutes with car along the Barnet Highway.

Area Description - North Burnaby:

North Burnaby is Vancouver's closest neighbour and home to a variety of parks, restaurants, and retail stores in the Brentwood area. Chinese, Korean, Punjabi and Hindi are among the languages spoken by Burnaby's residents and the restaurants reflect the city's multiculturalism. Burnaby is also home to two of the Lower Mainland's most prestigious educational institutions: Simon Fraser University, atop Burnaby Mountain, and the British Columbia Institute of Technology, near Brentwood.
North Burnaby borders Vancouver to the east and Port Moody to the west. With easy access to the #1 and #7 Highways, commuting to and from the area is easy. Vancouver's downtown core is just a 15 to 25 minute drive away, or with the rapid Skytrain lines you can reach downtown in 25 minutes.

Area Description - South Burnaby:

South Burnaby borders the waterfront city of New Westminster to the south, Coquitlam to the east, and Vancouver to the west. Centrally located in the Greater Vancouver Area, South Burnaby is easily accessible, which is why it's home to one of British Columbia's biggest and best malls: Metropolis at Metrotown, which has over 450 stores and features circus acts, talent competitions, and other events in its Grand Court. Burnaby Central Park is another major attraction, highlighting plenty of walking trails, tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools, a pitch-and-putt golf course, and more! If you have time, catch the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (Vancouver's MLS soccer team) at Swangard Stadium in the park's northwest corner.
Downtown Vancouver is a 15 to 25 minute drive away and with the Skytrain you can reach the Metrotown Mall from Vancouver in just 25 minutes.

Area Description - Richmond:

Richmond is a large city located south of Vancouver. You can reach central Richmond from downtown Vancouver in about 30-40 minutes by Skytrain or in approximately 30 minutes by car. Richmond is home to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). There are plenty of modern high-rises and shopping areas, including Richmond Centre Mall, which offers loads of stores and restaurants as well as Skytrain access. In south Richmond, you'll find the waterfront community of Steveston, a quiet residential area and a great place to visit for its harbourside views, restaurants, and fresh off the boat fish market, where you can purchase a variety of local West Coast seafood from local vendors anchored at the wharf.

Area Description - New Westminster:

New Westminster is situated 30 minutes southeast of downtown Vancouver. New Westminster is centrally located and borders many of the major centers, including Burnaby, Surrey, and Coquitlam. "New West" has a rich history and was the first official capital of British Columbia. Many of the old buildings have been converted into modern conveniences which give this small city a unique historical look. The city also borders the Fraser River and there are plenty of parks throughout. New West has Skytrain access, so you can reach downtown Vancouver with public transit in less than 30 minutes.

Area Description - Langley:

Langley is a busy township located east of Surrey and borders the United States to the south. Although Langley is situated at Greater Vancouver's eastern edge, it is still just a 45 minute drive from downtown Vancouver. A rolling green country landscape, lush farm fields, and glimpses of Mount Baker mean that local acreages are retreats despite the fact they're located in the country's third most populous metropolitan region. The recently-completed Golden Ears Bridge, which spans the Fraser River, has spurred industrial development and has connected Langley to its neighbouring communities of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.

Area Description - Surrey:

Upcoming Surrey neighbourhoods, such as Whalley and Guildford, have put Surrey on the map as the premier commercial/retail destination south of the Fraser River. The Guildford Town Center will meet all of your shopping needs, and there is Skytrain access at Surrey City Center and Whalley/Guildford. Downtown Vancouver is a 30-45 minute drive and public transit will take you there in about the same amount of time.
With the upcoming expansion of the new Port Mann Bridge, Surrey is quickly becoming one of Canada's fastest-growing cities.

Area Description - South Surrey, White Rock:

The prosperous waterfront communities of South Surrey and White Rock have plenty to offer families and professionals alike. There are sandy beaches, beautiful parks, and plenty of recreational activities to choose from such as kayaking, golfing, tennis, sailing and more!
South Surrey includes a variety of boutique shops and retail centres, such as "The Shops at Morgan Crossing" and "Highstreet" (no relation!). White Rock is famous for its 1,500 ft.-long pier and wonderful ocean views. South Surrey and White Rock are popular vacation spots and are among southwestern British Columbia's fastest-growing communities.
You can reach South Surrey and White Rock from Vancouver via Highway 99 in approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour or between 1 and 1.5 hours with public transit.
